Quick and Easy gift for Mum

May 07th, 2009 | Category: DT Projects and Ideas, General Info

Anyone need a quick and easy gift to give mum this Sunday??  If so, keep reading as Princess Jane has another quick, easy and very cost effective gift idea.

Materials needed

Empty photo packet

12×12 patterned paper

Glue dots

Glue stick

My mum is always requesting more photos of the kids and I have so many empty packets of photo paper I thought I would put them to good use and fill one with up to date photos of the kids for mum.  I have decorated this one with a sheet of the Pink Paislee Enchanting papers.  SO CHEAP !!

Making your gift
1. Firstly I dismantled the cardboard packet carefully.

2. Lay the packet on the patterned paper and trace around the outside of the packet.  Cut out the shape and use a glue stick to stick the patterned paper to the outside of the packet.
3. Ink the edges.
4. Fold back into place and use glue dots to stick it all back together.  Fill it with all those photos you have been printing out and tie a ribbon around it.
I am going to mail this to Mum and I can picture her getting it out of her handbag where ever she goes to show of the grandkids!!
Thanks for sharing Jane :)   I’ve got plenty of these lying around, so might have to find the time to give them a go myself !!

Technique – Scallops

May 07th, 2009 | Category: DT Projects and Ideas, General Info

Scallops are big at the moment, but not everyone can afford to buy every new scallop punched product that comes out  (its nice to dream though LOL)

Princess Kirsty has come up with a great, easy and cost effective way to still be able to achieve a scalloped effect on your work.

1.   Cut out your basic shape.  Kirsty is using a circle.

2.  Using a regular small circle punch (or cutter, or trace around a small round shape), cut out heaps of circles.  These could be in a matching or co-ordinating colored CS.

3.  Ink the edges of the circles

4.  Attach the small punched circles to the wrong side of the large shape, so you can see them poking over from the right side

And there you have it !!  Quick, easy and pretty scallops for any size and shape.

Thanks Kirsty for sharing.  If there are any techniques that you would like to see our DT create with, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

Easter Idea

March 13th, 2009 | Category: DT Projects and Ideas

Where is the year going??   It only seems like yesterday that Santa was delivering the presents, and now Easter Bunny is going to be hopping like mad to get the chocolate eggs delivered to everyone in time!!!
Nicole has come up with a nifty gift box that Easter Bunny will be able to fill with yummy chocolates.

These are the cutest little gift box for holding mini easter eggs, so quick and easy to make, you can easily churn them out for a whole class.

If you’re careful you should get x4 out of a piece of 12×12 paper.

Download THIS template (in case the link doesn’t work – http://www.jersgirl.com/templates/pillowbox_jersgirl.jpg)

I just printed it off, then laid it over the back side of my patterned paper and fairly roughly traced over it firmly with a lead pencil. A stylus would be ideal.
This leaves an imprint on the paper, that can be cut out around the outside edges and scored on all other lines. I did all my scoring by hand, they don’t need to be sharp edges. It is surprising how easily the curves folded, once you get the hang of it.

Here’s your cut out, scored template, run a length of double sided tape along the tab

Close it up at the taped side to form a ‘tube’ of sorts, and then squeeze the edges in as shown so the ends open up.

Fold your rounded flaps in one at a time to close the edges. After closing the first side, turn it over, and before closing the other side, insert a couple of mini easter eggs. Then close off the second side.

Decorate. I kept it simple as we are making these for the whole class of year ones. But you’d be surprised how quick and easy they come together

Thanks for sharing this quick and easy gift box Nicole.  I’m sure it will be hit with the kids at school.
